The Rhode Island Capitol Police was established in 1974 under R.I.G.L. § 12-2.2-1 as a uniformed security force with powers of arrest and is responsible for the security of state buildings and grounds. Their mission is to protect property and ensure the safety of employees and the public that work at and visit these buildings.
