Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs
The Rhode Island Division of Sheriffs was established within the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety in July 2011. The Division is responsible for judicial security, usually within the courthouse but occasionally beyond for security purposes. Duties include maintaining an effective court security program; providing for effective inmate/prisoner management that includes the transport of prisoners and inmates to and from District Court, Family Court, Superior Court and/or state facilities, hospitals and/or prisons, jails and /or cell blocks; perform extraditions; executing writs of process, both civil and criminal, and to summon witnesses to appear in court.
