Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy The Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy was created in 1969 under R.I.G.L. § 42-28.2 to provide basic training to all municipal police officers throughout Rhode Island, with the exception of the Providence Police. Additionally, new officers from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management-Enforcement Division and the Airport Police, among others, attend the Academy. The Academy also provides in-service training opportunities for sworn members of these departments.
